Initial Consultation

At Balance Hypnotherapy, the initial consultation allows us to consider the current issues which are affecting you and what you want to achieve. It also enables us to get to know each other a little and how we can best work together. During the initial consultation, we will look at how the mind works in relation to your current issues; how hypnotherapy can help you to achieve change and how many sessions may be required. When we understand how our mind works, we gain a sense of hope, understanding, control and a belief that we can change! This information is often enlightening and also underpins future sessions. I will give you notes from the session about how the mind works and you will also receive a CD which will help to start the process of relaxation.

Further Sessions

Each session lasts an hour; approximately half solution focused talk and half hypnosis. Each session follows a similar structure, offering focus and a safe environment in which to explore solutions to change towards your preferred future. Solution focused therapy enables you to imagine and describe your preferred future, how you can achieve change and what could be your first step; focusing on solutions and not dwelling on the problem and why we did what we did (though we acknowledge positive learnings from our problems or mistakes). We work together to help you to see things differently and to do things differently because tiny changes add up. In this way, change is manageable – each client solves their own issues in their unique way.

Hypnosis enables the mind to relax: the conscious part of the brain is turned down whilst the subconscious brain is more active, accommodating new ideas and accepting positive reframing of negative thoughts and beliefs; this in turn positively affects behaviour. During this part of the session, you are able to relax on a treatment couch with a light blanket to ensure comfort.

Number of sessions required

Hypnotherapy sessions:

At the initial consultation, we will better understand how many hypnotherapy sessions would be beneficial and can adapt as we progress. However, the number of sessions shown below is offered as a guide:

Straightforward fears/phobias: initial consultation plus approximately 3 sessions.
Depression/anxiety and related issues: initial consultation plus 8-12 sessions.
